Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho laid the foundation stone for the nearly Rs 10 crore ‘Late Smt. Jamnabai Firodia North East India Bhavan – Rani Gaidinliu Girls’ Hostel’ in Gujar-Nimbalkarwadi, Katraj, Pune, highlighting the importance of the Northeastern region in India’s growth story and the vision of Viksit Bharat.
Addressing the gathering after the foundation ceremony, Dikho described the Northeast as an integral part of India’s heritage, known for its rich traditions, diverse cultures, talent and vast potential. He said the region’s contribution to the country’s development goes beyond economics and includes strengthening India’s unity, identity and social fabric.
Dikho, a senior leader from the Naga tribal community, said the proposed hostel represents more than just a physical structure and reflects a collective commitment towards supporting students and young people from different parts of the country. He emphasised that every student, regardless of their region of origin, should have access to quality education, opportunities and a supportive environment.

The Manipur Deputy Chief Minister described the Bhavan as a “home away from home” for students from the Northeastern states pursuing higher education in Pune. He said the facility would provide a safe and secure residential space, helping students focus on academics while encouraging personal growth, confidence and future career opportunities.
The hostel is expected to serve as a permanent support system, particularly for students from Manipur and other Northeastern states who face challenges in finding suitable accommodation while studying outside their home regions. Dikho reiterated that the Manipur government would continue backing initiatives aimed at empowering youth and expanding educational opportunities.
A senior official said the project is expected to be completed within one-and-a-half years and will also promote cultural exchange, harmony and social integration. Students from different communities and states are expected to live and interact under one roof, creating stronger bonds among Northeastern youth and contributing to the larger goal of national integration.
