A 19-year-old identified as Tanish, alias Lala, was arrested in northwest Delhi’s Majlis Park for allegedly shooting at 17-year-old Aryan to settle a personal score, police reported on Friday. The incident, which left Aryan with two gunshot wounds, occurred on July 7 near a foot overbridge opposite MCD Colony in Azadpur.
According to a senior police officer, Neetu, Aryan’s mother and an eyewitness, recounted that three to four boys opened fire while she, Aryan, and two others stood near the overbridge. Aryan was rushed to the Trauma Centre in Civil Lines for treatment. A case was filed at Adarsh Nagar police station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder and the Arms Act for illegal firearm possession.
Following a tip-off, police intercepted Tanish on a black-blue scooter on 51 Number Road after a brief chase on July 9-10. A pistol and a live cartridge were recovered from him. During interrogation, Tanish confessed to planning the attack with three associates to settle a personal rivalry. Efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects are ongoing.
