Sahkar Taxi Cooperative has initiated the beta launch of Bharat Taxi, a new ride-hailing platform, in Delhi and parts of Gujarat. Positioned as the world’s largest driver-owned mobility network, Bharat Taxi offers a unique cooperative model where drivers across cars, autos, and bikes hold ownership stakes, participate in governance, and share profits. The app currently serves over 51,000 registered drivers in New Delhi and Saurashtra.
The Bharat Taxi application is available for download on Google Play for beta testing, with an iOS release planned shortly. One of the app’s standout features is its integration with the Delhi Metro system, allowing users to conveniently plan and book trips combining multiple modes of transportation within a single platform. This seamless connectivity aims to enhance commuter experience by simplifying multi-leg journeys.
For drivers, the cooperative model offers significant advantages compared to traditional ride-hailing services. They receive the full share of fares paid by customers, representation on the organisation’s board, dividends based on shares owned, and a portion of overall profits. Additionally, the cooperative has partnered with Delhi Police to strengthen safety measures for both drivers and passengers.

Sahkar Taxi Cooperative Limited is registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies Act, boasting an authorised share capital of Rs 300 crore. The platform aligns with government initiatives promoted by Union Minister Amit Shah, who earlier expressed support for cooperative ride-hailing services uniting two-wheelers, rickshaws, taxis, and four-wheelers on one digital platform.
