Tripura has achieved a major milestone in its education sector, with the state reporting a zero dropout rate in primary schools (Classes I to V), Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Wednesday. The development marks a significant achievement in ensuring that children across the state remain enrolled in foundational education.
Speaking in the Tripura Legislative Assembly, Saha attributed this success to the sustained efforts of the Elementary Education Department and the implementation of multiple student-focused initiatives. “These measures have ensured that every child in Tripura remains connected to primary education,” he said, highlighting the role of the NIPUN Bharat Mission and the recently launched Saharsha Tripura programme, which emphasizes the social, emotional, and holistic development of students.
The government has implemented a wide range of initiatives to support learning and prevent dropouts. These include the distribution of learning aids and play materials, digital learning initiatives, and the establishment of libraries in every primary school. Attendance and potential dropout risks are closely monitored through the Unified District Information System for Education (U-DISE), while out-of-school children receive special training and students from remote areas are provided residential hostel facilities.

Additional measures to enhance student welfare include the construction of separate toilets in schools, stipends for children with special needs, regular teacher-parent meetings, and the provision of free uniforms and textbooks. Officials say these combined efforts have contributed significantly to retaining students in the education system.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Saha also congratulated Ram Pada Jamatia on his uncontested election as Speaker of the Tripura Legislative Assembly, following the death of former Speaker Biswa Bandhu Sen in December last year. Saha described Jamatia’s election as a reflection of broad confidence in his leadership and praised his address in Hindi for bringing a refreshing change to the House's proceedings.
“We are delighted to have such a capable Speaker. The Legislative Assembly is a seat of impartiality and democracy, where one must rise above politics,” Saha said, expressing confidence that Jamatia would perform his duties with fairness and efficiency. He added that he hoped the new Speaker’s tenure would be remembered for its distinction and contribution to democratic values in Tripura.
