Amazon has announced another round of job cuts, with fewer than 1,000 white-collar positions expected to be affected globally. The latest reductions are focused mainly on the company's Stores division, which operates its core e-commerce business. Employees in the United States, India and the United Kingdom are among those affected, according to people familiar with the matter.
The cuts have affected several teams, including customer service, marketplace and selling-partner support, as well as engineering roles connected to Amazon's retail operations. Employees reportedly began receiving notifications about their positions earlier this week. Amazon has not disclosed an exact number of affected employees or provided a country-wise breakdown of the latest reductions.
Indian employees have also been affected by the restructuring. Reports indicate that at least 100 positions in India may have been impacted, particularly in retail and customer service functions, although Amazon has not officially confirmed the figure. The latest layoffs became known around the time Amazon's Great Indian Festival sale began in India, adding attention to the timing of the workforce changes.

Amazon said the changes are part of an effort to reorganise portions of its Stores business and align its workforce with current priorities. The company has described the number of affected roles as small and said it is committed to supporting employees through the transition. The latest reductions follow a much larger restructuring that eliminated roughly 30,000 positions beginning last year and continuing into early 2026.
The workforce reductions are taking place as Amazon significantly increases its investment in artificial intelligence and related infrastructure. The company is preparing to spend hundreds of billions of dollars on data centres, chips and other infrastructure, with much of the investment expected to support AI workloads. At the same time, Amazon has continued hiring for areas such as AI, machine learning and cloud computing, highlighting a shift in the types of skills it is prioritising.
The latest layoffs therefore appear to be part of a broader restructuring rather than a company-wide withdrawal from hiring. Amazon has also approached some former employees about openings in AI and other growing businesses, according to reports. For employees in India and other affected markets, however, the latest reductions underline the continuing changes within Amazon as the company reorganises its workforce and redirects resources towards newer areas of growth.
