Rising water levels in the Gomti River have triggered a flood-like situation in parts of Lucknow, with water reaching Shaheed Path and submerging the service lane near Phoenix Palassio Mall. The affected stretch has been closed to traffic, while flooding has also disrupted movement around Ekana Stadium and parts of Gomti Nagar Extension. The situation has added to waterlogging already reported in several parts of the city.
The Gomti's water level reached 107.24 metres on Wednesday evening, below the danger mark of 108.5 metres. Despite remaining below the threshold, the rising river has caused significant flooding in low-lying areas. The Shaheed Path service lane, which also provides access to the Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority office, has been inundated, while residents in nearby localities have faced difficulties moving through the affected roads.
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation has stepped up relief and rescue measures in several affected areas, including Saitha, Loharamau, Faizullaganj, Daud Nagar and Millat Nagar. Officials said 35 families in Zone 6 have been moved to safer locations, while 26 people are currently staying in temporary shelters. Twenty water tankers and 10,000 litres of packaged drinking water have also been supplied to residents in affected areas.

Authorities have deployed 90 boats to assist with rescue operations and the movement of essential supplies in flooded localities. Twelve temporary night shelters have been established, including 10 in Daud Nagar and one each in Loharamau and Millat Nagar. The civic body has also deployed around 250 workers for sanitation and disease-prevention measures, including fogging and anti-larvae spraying. Drones have been used to spray anti-larvae treatment across around 150 acres.
The flooding has also prompted residents to raise concerns about road access and the safety of families travelling through waterlogged areas. Local resident Sachin Sahay said his car was nearly submerged while he was travelling near Phoenix Palassio on Wednesday evening, forcing him to take precautions while reaching Shaheed Path. Meanwhile, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti University has been converted into a temporary storage centre for relief material, while rescue teams continue operations in affected neighbourhoods.
The situation has also triggered a political response, with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav criticising the Uttar Pradesh government over the waterlogging. He alleged that poor drainage and sewer management had contributed to the crisis and blamed the BJP government for the situation. The Congress has separately said its workers are distributing relief material in flood-hit Faizullaganj, where the party claimed more than 40,000 people have been affected. The administration continues to monitor the river level and relief operations across the city.
