The India Post Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) 2026 first merit list for the July/Schedule-II recruitment cycle is expected to be released soon. The recruitment drive covers 23,757 vacancies for GDS, Branch Postmaster (BPM) and Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) positions. While the Department of Posts has not officially announced the release date, the first list is expected around October 10 based on previous recruitment timelines.
The current recruitment cycle opened registration on August 31, while applications were accepted from September 2 to September 21. The correction window was subsequently available on September 23 and 24. The official India Post portal confirms that the Schedule-II July 2026 recruitment process covers the current GDS engagement cycle.
Unlike many government recruitment processes, GDS selection does not involve a written examination or interview. Candidates are shortlisted through a system-generated merit list prepared primarily using marks obtained in the Class 10 examination. The marks are converted into a percentage calculated to four decimal places, with the applicable recruitment rules also taken into account.

Once released, candidates will be able to check the circle-wise merit list through the official India Post GDS recruitment portal. Applicants will need to open the shortlisted candidates section, select the relevant postal circle and download the corresponding PDF. They can then search the document for their name or registration number to determine whether they have been shortlisted.
Candidates whose names appear in the merit list will subsequently have to undergo physical verification of their original documents. The required verification process may include educational certificates and other documents applicable to the candidate's category and application. Shortlisted candidates are advised to follow the instructions and deadlines communicated by India Post after the list is released.
Applicants should note that October 10 is only an expected date and not an officially confirmed release date. Candidates who do not find their names in the first list should continue checking the official portal, as additional merit lists may be issued depending on vacancies and the outcome of the verification process. Applicants should rely on the official India Post website for the final announcement and merit-list PDFs.
