Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay arrived in the national capital on Wednesday and was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour upon arrival. He is likely to attend the NITI Aayog governing council meeting, which is scheduled for Thursday and will be chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, according to people familiar with the development.
The Chief Minister was received at the Tamil Nadu Bhavan by Chief Secretary M Sai Kumar and other senior government officials. The visit marks a significant political engagement at the administrative centre in Delhi, where key discussions involving state and central coordination are expected.
This is Vijay’s second visit to the national capital since May 27, when he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. During those meetings, he is understood to have raised several issues related to Tamil Nadu, including the proposed Mekedatu dam project across the Cauvery river by the Karnataka government and the release of Tamil fishermen detained by the Sri Lankan Navy.

He also reportedly urged priority allocation of central funds for key infrastructure sectors in Tamil Nadu, including ports, highways, railway projects, and industrial corridors, during his discussions with the Finance Minister.
Senior politician and minister K A Sengottaiyan said the Chief Minister is expected to raise important state-related issues during the NITI Aayog meeting. He added that Vijay would outline the need for relief and welfare initiatives across departments and seek enhanced central funding support for Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister is expected to return on June 12 and may also meet senior Congress leadership, including Sonia Gandhi, party president Mallikarjun Kharge, and Rahul Gandhi. The Congress is reported to have formed a post-poll alliance with the ruling Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu, with two lawmakers from the party being inducted into Vijay’s cabinet after a gap of 59 years in the southern state.
