The upcoming film Ramayana starring Ranbir Kapoor has sparked discussions among audiences and mythology enthusiasts after Shiv Sagar, grandson of legendary filmmaker Ramanand Sagar, shared his views on the recently released trailer. While he praised the film’s visual effects and appreciated the performances of Yash and Sai Pallavi, Shiv expressed reservations about Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Ram.

Ramanand Sagar’s 1987 television series Ramayan remains one of the most influential adaptations of the epic, with millions of viewers considering it a cultural landmark. Given his family’s connection to the iconic series, Shiv Sagar’s reaction to the new cinematic adaptation has attracted considerable attention.

Reviewing the trailer, Shiv acknowledged that the full-length preview offered more details compared with the earlier teaser. He said the trailer provided a better understanding of the characters, the scale of the production and the visual effects, including the introduction of Yash’s portrayal of Ravana.

Shiv particularly praised the casting of Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita, saying their background and familiarity with Indian mythology helped them connect with their respective roles. He highlighted that actors from South India often grow up hearing stories from epics and traditions, which he believes helps them understand the mannerisms and emotions associated with mythological characters.

However, Shiv was less convinced about the choice of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram. He said he did not connect with the casting of the other actors in the same way and suggested that Kapoor’s previous roles had influenced public perception of him. His comments appeared to refer to the actor’s recent portrayal of intense and morally complex characters, including his role in Animal, which received both praise and criticism.

The casting of Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram has been a subject of debate since the project was announced.
