South African Superstar Tyla stormed Mumbai’s MMRDA Grounds on December 7 for the Indian Sneaker Festival 2025, commanding a sold-out crowd with a breathless 60-minute set packed with global hits including her Grammy-winning Water. Yet even before the first beat dropped, the 23-year-old singer had already stolen the entire nation’s heart by stepping onto Indian soil draped in an ethereal mint-green saree-inspired creation hand-stitched through the night by internet phenomenon and self-taught couturier Nancy Tyagi.
The breathtaking ensemble fused centuries-old Indian draping artistry with cutting-edge red-carpet edge: a completely sheer pre-draped pallu cascading over a sculpted low-rise waist, a body-skimming mermaid skirt exploding into a cathedral-length train, and a daring thigh-high slit that flashed with every move. Thousands of hand-placed sequins caught the stage lights like liquid mercury, while intricate tonal embroidery traced delicate traditional motifs across the modern silhouette, creating a garment that honoured heritage while screaming contemporary luxury.
Tyla elevated the look to regal heights with a crystal-embellished plunging bralette, towering embellished pumps, layered diamond chokers, cascading earrings, an ornate haath phool, and a glittering emerald bindi that completed the cultural embrace. Her signature waist-length braids framed the ensemble perfectly, finished with sharp winged liner, feathered brows, glassy highlighter and nude gloss that glowed under the stadium floodlights. Posting the pictures to millions, she wrote, “Twin stayed up all night designing and hand making this saree-inspired look 4 me… She is insane ilyyyy.”

Nancy Tyagi, the 23-year-old Delhi designer who taught herself couture on YouTube and stunned the world with her self-made 2024 Cannes gown, explained that the piece was crafted as a living bridge between two bold identities. “I wanted Indian technique—its emotional depth and centuries of artistry—to sit naturally beside Tyla’s fearless, self-defined style without either losing its voice,” she stated, revealing every pleat, stitch and sequin was placed by hand to allow tradition to move freely with a global icon.
From dressing Bollywood’s Ananya Panday to now draping a Grammy-winning African queen in a creation that instantly became the most shared pride for two continents, Nancy Tyagi has cemented her place as fashion’s most exhilarating new voice, proving that the future of couture can be born in a small bedroom and still conquer the world, one hand-sewn dream at a time.
