Ram Gopal Varma has questioned the approach taken by several celebrities in responding to an AI-morphed video involving actor Janhvi Kapoor. The filmmaker argued that publicly discussing and condemning the clip may have unintentionally increased its reach by directing more attention towards the content and the link through which it circulated.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Ram appeared to refer to the controversy surrounding Janhvi and the song Chuttamalle from Devara: Part 1, without naming the actor directly. He argued that the public response from celebrities may have resulted in more people becoming aware of the objectionable material rather than helping address the source of the problem.
Ram said the focus should instead have been on identifying and taking action against the person responsible for creating and distributing the manipulated content. He argued that drawing widespread attention to the victim and the offensive material could have had the unintended effect of further publicising both. His comments centred on the need to prioritise accountability and efforts to identify the perpetrator.

The controversy began after an AI-generated video featuring Janhvi started circulating online. The manipulated clip used footage associated with Chuttamalle, in which Janhvi appeared alongside Jr NTR, but digitally altered the material to portray the actor in sexually explicit and degrading circumstances. The incident has renewed concerns over the misuse of artificial intelligence to create non-consensual manipulated content involving public figures.
Jr NTR was among the first celebrities to publicly react to the incident, condemning the creation and circulation of the manipulated material and urging legal action against those responsible. Janhvi later addressed the broader issue of technology being misused to create and distribute fictionalised content without consent, describing such material as deeply violating without discussing the details of the video.
The incident has also prompted reactions from several figures in the Telugu film industry, including Chiranjeevi, Vijay Deverakonda and Khushbu Sundar. Their responses focused on condemning the misuse of AI and supporting Janhvi, while the wider controversy has highlighted growing concerns about digitally altered content, consent and the challenges of holding those responsible accountable.
