Celebrated filmmaker Meghna Gulzar is all set to helm her next project ‘Daayra’, a crime-drama thriller starring Kareena Kapoor Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles. Backed by Junglee Pictures, the film promises to delve into the paradoxes of crime, justice, and punishment, while holding up a mirror to society’s most pressing realities.

The project marks Meghna Gulzar’s third collaboration with Junglee Pictures after ‘Talvar’ and ‘Raazi’. Co-written by Gulzar, Sima Agarwal, and Yash Keswani, ‘Daayra’ aims to spark reflection and conversation, exploring the grey areas within black-and-white notions of morality and justice.

Kareena, who celebrates 25 years in Hindi cinema, called it a milestone project. “To be directed by Meghna Gulzar is a dream come true. I’ve long admired her work. ‘Daayra’ is bold and thought-provoking, and working with Prithviraj makes it even more exciting,” she said.

Prithviraj, fresh off his Malayalam blockbuster ‘L2: Empuraan’, shared his enthusiasm for the script. “The moment I heard the narration, I knew I wanted to be part of this. My character is deeply layered and evolves significantly through the film,” he said.

Meghna described the story as one that challenges societal norms and institutions. “Unravelling the greys in a seemingly black-and-white world with Sima and Yash was creatively thrilling. With Kareena and Prithviraj leading the narrative, the story will gain even more power,” she said.

Amrita Pandey, CEO of Junglee Pictures, praised Gulzar’s unique ability to combine depth and mass appeal, and called the casting “a dream.”

Currently in pre-production, ‘Daayra’ is poised to be one of the most anticipated films of the year, promising a cinematic experience that is both gripping and meaningful.
