Lucknow Super Giants have suffered a major setback in IPL 2026 after Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was ruled out of the season due to injury, the franchise confirmed on Thursday. The development comes as a blow to the team’s campaign, with the management now expected to announce a replacement within the next 24 to 48 hours.
The update was confirmed by LSG director of cricket Tom Moody during the franchise’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. He stated that the team is already preparing for the all-rounder’s absence and is actively assessing potential options to fill the gap left in the squad.
According to reports, South African left-arm spinner George Linde is among the leading candidates being considered as Hasaranga’s replacement. The franchise is believed to be finalising its decision, with an official announcement expected soon as they look to maintain balance in their bowling attack for the remainder of the tournament.

Hasaranga’s absence stems from a hamstring injury he sustained earlier during international duty, which has kept him out of competitive cricket since February. The setback also prevented him from completing mandatory fitness requirements needed to obtain clearance for participation in the IPL season.
LSG had secured Hasaranga for ₹2 crore in the previous auction, banking on his all-round abilities to strengthen their middle overs and provide wicket-taking options. However, his unavailability has forced the team to rethink its strategy midway through the season.
Despite the setback, LSG managed a strong on-field response, edging out Kolkata Knight Riders in a last-ball thriller at Eden Gardens. The win was powered by standout performances from Ayush Badoni and Mukul Choudhary, helping the team secure a narrow three-wicket victory while they continue to adjust their squad composition.
