Priyansh Arya delivered a fiery start as Punjab Kings successfully chased down a challenging target of 210 runs against Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The 24-year-old left-handed batter scored a rapid 39 off just 11 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes, helping PBKS surpass the 60-run mark inside the powerplay. Arya’s performance earned him the Player of the Match award.
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Arya reflected on his aggressive batting style, saying, “It has been like this since childhood, and whenever I feel that it will benefit the team, I play like that. There is a little bit of risk-taking involved. I have a belief in myself that if I can hit the first ball, then I will hit it… But I believe in my abilities as much as I believe in myself. It gives a good result.”
Arya also shared insights into his preparation, noting that he practices two batting sessions a day, each lasting about one and a half hours. “Because I like batting very much,” he added. He comes from a family of teachers in Delhi and jokingly remarked that despite his academic background, “there is no chance” for him to become a teacher now.

In the same match, Cooper Connolly continued his impressive form and was awarded the Orange Cap for scoring the most runs so far this season, with a total of 108 runs. Connolly contributed 36 runs off 22 balls in PBKS’s successful chase, providing crucial momentum in the middle overs.
Reflecting on his performance, Connolly said, “It's still pretty early in the season, just trying to put my best foot forward and help the team get some wins. We'll keep moving. It's a long tournament… there are still 12 games to go. I think it's about capitalising on the back end of the powerplay if I come in.”
The win marks PBKS’s second consecutive victory in IPL 2026, boosting their confidence as the tournament progresses. With Arya’s explosive batting and Connolly’s steady run-scoring, the team appears well-positioned to challenge the top contenders in the league.
