South Africa’s senior batter David Miller has been medically cleared to join the national squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed on Saturday. The tournament, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, begins next week, and Miller’s return provides a major boost to the Proteas’ batting line-up.
Miller had suffered an adductor muscle strain while playing for Paarl Royals during the SA20 league, raising concerns about his availability for the global tournament. He successfully completed a fitness assessment earlier this week, clearing the final hurdle for his inclusion. CSA confirmed that Miller will depart with the South African squad from OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to Mumbai on Sunday.
South Africa, last edition’s runner-up, has been placed in Group D alongside New Zealand, Afghanistan, Canada, and the United Arab Emirates. The team’s preparations will include a warm-up match against India at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on February 4, providing an opportunity to fine-tune combinations before their tournament opener against Canada in Ahmedabad on February 9.

Miller’s inclusion strengthens a Proteas batting line-up that has been in solid form during the SA20 and other lead-up events. Known for his powerful hitting in the middle order and ability to finish games under pressure, Miller’s presence is expected to play a pivotal role in South Africa’s pursuit of its first T20 World Cup title.
With key players fit and squad morale high, South Africa enters the T20 World Cup as one of the tournament favorites. Miller’s clearance not only reassures fans but also adds depth to the team’s strategy, particularly in high-pressure encounters against top-ranked sides like India and New Zealand.
