The Trinamool Congress has initiated legal action by filing a police complaint against Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP's IT Cell, in response to his controversial social media post that equated the ongoing unrest in Bangladesh with the governance and political climate in West Bengal under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's leadership.
The complaint, formally lodged by TMC State General Secretary Tanmoy Ghosh, characterises Malviya's statements as deliberately misleading, highly inflammatory, and strategically crafted to provoke communal tensions and unrest among the public by establishing unfounded parallels between instances of Islamist violence in Bangladesh and the administrative policies in the state.
Malviya's post on X detailed the recent vandalism of Chhayanaut Bhavan, a revered historic institution central to Bengali arts and culture in Dhaka, portraying it as emblematic of widespread assaults on media outlets, journalists, and cultural landmarks by extremist groups. He framed these events as a stark warning about the dangers of appeasing radical elements and allowing lawlessness to prevail unchecked.

Extending his critique, Malviya explicitly linked the situation to West Bengal, expressing grave concerns over the state's direction, citing alleged prolonged political patronage, systematic weakening of institutional frameworks, and instances of selective silence on critical issues. He cautioned that persistence of the current regime past 2026 could inflict permanent and irreparable damage on Bengal's social and political fabric.
In rebuttal, Ghosh asserted that such remarks transcend mere political rivalry, posing a direct threat to India's national sovereignty and its delicate diplomatic relations with neighbouring countries. He raised pointed questions about potential tacit approval from the Prime Minister’s Office and the Ministry of External Affairs, while reaffirming TMC's unwavering bipartisan support for the central government on matters of national security and foreign policy, and condemning the reduction of complex international issues to partisan electoral tactics amid intensifying inter-party confrontations.
