Assam is preparing to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a two-day visit starting Saturday, with a packed schedule including major inaugurations, public meetings, and political engagements. Final arrangements are being put in place to ensure smooth conduct of the events.
Modi is expected to arrive at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBI) around 2:30 pm, where he will unveil an 80-foot statue of Assam’s first Chief Minister Gopinath Bordoloi outside the airport’s newly constructed terminal named in his honour. The Prime Minister will also inspect the Rs 4,000 crore terminal, a key upgrade in the state’s aviation infrastructure.
Following the airport events, Modi will address a public meeting outside the terminal and participate in a roadshow to the BJP’s state headquarters in Basistha, where he will interact with party workers. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma noted that this marks the first-ever visit of a Prime Minister to the state BJP office.

On Sunday morning, Modi will conduct the ‘Pariksha pe Charcha’ programme, engaging with 25 meritorious students aboard the cruise ship ‘Charaideo’ while sailing on the Brahmaputra. He will then visit the newly constructed Swahid Smarak Kshetra to pay homage to 860 martyrs of the Assam movement against illegal infiltration.
Later, the Prime Minister will travel to Dibrugarh and Namrup, where he will perform the ‘Bhumi Pujan’ for a Rs 12,000 crore ammonia-urea fertiliser plant. He is also scheduled to address a public meeting in Namrup before concluding the visit and returning to New Delhi.
Preparations for the visit were reviewed at a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, covering security, traffic management, medical services, and inter-departmental coordination. Authorities have been directed to ensure seamless execution of the approved programme, including arrangements at arrival points, ceremonial areas, and movement corridors.
