Tech entrepreneur Saiman Shetty, who was born in Karnataka, has become a United States citizen after navigating years of immigration difficulties, professional setbacks and what he described as an attempted effort to have him deported. Shetty shared the milestone on Instagram, reflecting on his journey from a small village in Karnataka to building a career in the United States. He described arriving in the country as a financially struggling international student without a support system or a clear backup plan.

Shetty recalled facing several challenges during his early years in the US, including debt, job rejections, visa uncertainty and lengthy immigration backlogs. He also lost the H-1B visa lottery before eventually establishing himself in the technology sector. Despite securing a well-paying job in Silicon Valley, Shetty later left the position to pursue his entrepreneurial ambitions and build his own career.

The entrepreneur also recounted an immigration-related dispute in which he alleged that a group of individuals attempted to portray him as a fraud and submitted allegations against him to US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Shetty claimed the allegations created the possibility of serious consequences for his immigration status. He later maintained that the claims did not withstand scrutiny and that the matter was ultimately resolved without the deportation outcome he feared.

Reflecting on the experience, Shetty described his path to citizenship as difficult rather than straightforward. He wrote that the US had not “rolled out a red carpet” for him and had tested him throughout his journey. At the same time, he credited the country's legal and institutional framework for allowing him to overcome the immigration challenge and eventually secure citizenship.

Shetty used his citizenship milestone to address immigrants currently navigating the US immigration system, including international students, skilled workers and people waiting through lengthy permanent residency processes. He encouraged them to remain patient, comply with immigration laws and continue pursuing their professional and personal goals despite uncertainty and setbacks.

The entrepreneur also reaffirmed his intention to support immigrant communities, claiming that more than 300 immigrants who have received assistance through his efforts are expected to reach similar milestones in the coming years. Describing his citizenship as more than simply obtaining a passport, Shetty expressed pride in his immigrant journey and indicated that he intends to continue helping others pursuing opportunities in the United States.
