A significant breakthrough is expected in the India vs Pakistan T20 World Cup 2026 standoff after a high-level meeting between the International Cricket Council (ICC), Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) was held in Lahore on Sunday. The final decision, however, rests with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is scheduled to meet PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. Sources suggest the sentiment favors the India-Pakistan match going ahead as planned on February 15.
The tri-party discussion was attended by ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, and BCB President Aminul Islam. The meeting focused on Pakistan’s decision to boycott the fixture and sought a resolution to preserve the tournament’s financial and sporting integrity. The ICC emphasized the importance of adhering to the tournament schedule and clarified the implications of the Force Majeure clause cited by PCB.
During the meeting, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi voiced concerns over what he called “double standards” in the ICC’s handling of Bangladesh’s security issues. While he maintained Pakistan’s boycott stance, he outlined three conditions under which a resolution could be reached: increased compensation for Bangladesh, payment of participation fees despite Bangladesh’s removal, and hosting rights for a future ICC event.

BCB President Aminul Islam participated to show solidarity with Pakistan following Bangladesh’s ouster from the tournament over its refusal to travel to India. Islam also engaged in discussions to convey Bangladesh’s position and explore ways to resolve the dispute, signalling the willingness of all parties to find a mutually acceptable solution.
ICC Deputy Chairman Imran Khawaja, who led the delegation, stressed mediation efforts to “salvage” the India-Pakistan fixture, which is crucial for the T20 World Cup’s financial success. ICC officials also discussed the Force Majeure clause, explaining its conditions and potential consequences for Pakistan if the boycott persisted.
Insiders indicate the overall mood of the talks was positive, with the boycott likely to be lifted within 24 hours. Cricket fans worldwide are closely watching developments, as the India-Pakistan match remains one of the most anticipated encounters in global cricket.
