A Special Investigation Team (SIT) initiated a probe into disturbing allegations of mass burials in Dharmasthala, Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka. The investigation, sparked by an anonymous complaint, is being led by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police M.N. Anucheth, with Superintendent of Police Jitendra Dayama appointed as the investigating officer.
The SIT, based at the Intelligence Bureau office in Mallikatte, Mangaluru, comprises over 20 officers from Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Uttara Kannada districts, including personnel from Dharmasthala, Mulki, and Byndoor police stations.
The team has already begun visiting key sites linked to the case and is gearing up for a high-level meeting to strategize next steps. Interrogations, including questioning the anonymous complainant, are expected to take place at the SIT office, with video recording equipment in place to ensure transparency.

The Karnataka government formed the SIT earlier this month in response to the grave nature of the claims, which have sent shockwaves through the region. The team is tasked with verifying the authenticity of the allegations, identifying any individuals involved, and determining whether legal violations occurred.
Authorities have assured that the investigation will be thorough, addressing both procedural and legal aspects to uncover the truth behind the unsettling claims.
