BJP MP from Hazaribagh Manish Jaiswal met Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday and raised concerns over alleged irregularities in Jharkhand’s recruitment examinations, ongoing student protests and the state’s law-and-order situation. Jaiswal urged the Centre to consider a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into allegations surrounding the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and JSSC-CGL examinations.

During the meeting, Jaiswal briefed Shah about allegations of large-scale irregularities and the alleged buying and selling of seats in the recruitment examinations. He questioned the state government’s ongoing Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inquiry and argued that a central investigation would provide an impartial examination of the allegations. The BJP MP also raised concerns about the grievances of job aspirants involved in the prolonged agitation.

Jaiswal maintained that the issue extends beyond the recruitment examinations and has implications for the future of more than five lakh candidates in Jharkhand. He emphasised the concerns of students over the recruitment process and their confidence in the state’s government examination system. The BJP MP sought greater scrutiny of the allegations and an investigation independent of the state authorities.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of clashes between protesting students and police in Ranchi as job aspirants marched towards the Jharkhand Assembly. Police used water cannons, tear gas and baton charges after protesters breached barricades while attempting to approach the Assembly premises. The students continued their demonstration over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations.

The student agitation entered its 17th day on Monday, with thousands of job aspirants participating in a ‘Vidhan Sabha Gherao’ march. The protesters have been demanding reforms in the JPSC and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission and action over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. The prolonged demonstration has emerged as a major political issue in the state.

Jaiswal also raised broader concerns about law and order in Jharkhand during his meeting with Shah. He referred to organised crime and alleged illegal activities in the state and specifically drew attention to the expanding illegal drug trade in areas including Hazaribagh and Ramgarh. The BJP MP also raised allegations concerning the exploitation and looting of the state’s mineral resources.
