ChatGPT's newly introduced image generation feature has sparked a frenzy online, with users flocking to create imaginative visuals. The most popular trend? Studio Ghibli-style images, which have taken social media by storm. In just one week since the feature’s launch, the numbers are staggering.
OpenAI COO Brad Lightcap revealed the impressive statistics in a post on X (formerly Twitter), noting that more than 130 million ChatGPT users have generated over 700 million images since last Tuesday.
“(sic) very crazy first week for images in chatgpt - over 130M users have generated 700M+ (!) images since last tuesday India is now our fastest growing chatgpt market the range of visual creativity has been extremely inspiring we appreciate your patience as we try to serve everyone, team continues to work around the clock,” he tweeted on April 3.
Lightcap's statement aligns with sentiments expressed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman a day prior, when he acknowledged India’s rapid adoption of AI.
“(sic) What's happening with ai adoption in India right now is amazing to watch. We love to see the explosion of creativity-- India is outpacing the world,” Altman wrote.
Altman has previously highlighted India's increasing enthusiasm for AI, noting that the country reached one million users in just an hour, compared to ChatGPT’s initial growth phase in 2022, when it took a month to hit that milestone.
Following Altman’s remarks, Andhra Pradesh IT and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh invited him to visit the state, calling it India's emerging AI Tech Hub.
“(sic) Dear @sama, I cordially invite you to explore Andhra Pradesh, India's emerging AI Tech Hub. We're eager to learn, adapt, and enhance our ecosystem to foster the growth of AI in our state so we could create more jobs for the youth in our State,” Lokesh posted on X.
India’s swift embrace of AI is turning heads globally, positioning the country as a leader in the tech revolution.
