Former Bollywood actress Sana Khan has firmly addressed persistent online speculation that her husband, Mufti Anas Sayed, “brainwashed” her into quitting the entertainment industry. In a candid conversation with actress Rashami Desai on her YouTube channel, Sana opened up about her 2020 decision to leave showbiz at the peak of her career. Known for roles in films like Jai Ho and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, as well as her stint on Bigg Boss 6, Sana announced her exit via Instagram, stating she wanted to serve humanity and follow her Creator’s guidance. She later married Islamic scholar Mufti Anas Sayed in a private ceremony in November 2020.
Sana explained that her transformation was deeply personal and self-driven, stemming from an inner desire for peace amid the glamour of fame. “The situation was such that major changes were happening in my life. I was literally transforming into a different person,” she said. “This was not something caused by my husband; it was something I wanted for myself. He was the one who guided me in that direction.” She emphasized that no one can be forced into such a change unless they truly desire it, rejecting the notion of external manipulation.
Responding directly to trolls and critics who accused Mufti Anas of influencing her choices, Sana stated, “Nobody can brainwash you; it’s never like that. I wanted peace.” She reflected on how material success—money, fame, and respect—often leaves people searching for inner sukoon (tranquility). Sana noted that like many women, she aspired to marriage, children, and a stable home, and her evolving surroundings played a role in her decisions. “When your surroundings aren’t right, your decisions also tend to be wrong,” she added, highlighting how time and reflection strengthened her bond with her husband.

The actress also shared details of her “top secret” wedding, revealing that only her parents knew about it initially, and even her extended family was surprised upon seeing Mufti Anas. She praised his support, noting that he covered most expenses except her mehndi. Sana expressed deep gratitude for their relationship, saying she values him immensely and believes she couldn’t have found anyone better.
Her revelations come amid renewed discussions about her life post-showbiz, with actress Zareen Khan recently noting Sana’s inherent religiosity even during her acting days. Sana’s firm stance underscores her agency in choosing a path of spiritual fulfillment over celebrity life, shutting down narratives of coercion while celebrating the supportive guidance from her husband.
