Abhishek Sharma, all-rounder for Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been reprimanded by the IPL Governing Council for a breach of the Code of Conduct during Thursday’s clash against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Sharma was handed a Level 1 sanction, which includes a 25% deduction from his match fee and the accumulation of one demerit point on his disciplinary record.
The IPL confirmed that Sharma admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.3, which relates to the use of audible obscenities during a match. While the league did not provide detailed specifics of the incident, the official statement emphasized that the sanction was accepted by Sharma and that Level 1 breaches carry binding decisions from the Match Referee. Although the penalty is considered minor, repeated violations could result in stricter measures, including suspensions.
On the field, Sharma made a strong comeback, scoring 48 runs off 21 balls, featuring four sixes and four fours. He opened the innings alongside Travis Head, sharing an explosive 82-run partnership that set the foundation for SRH’s commanding total. Heinrich Klaasen also contributed a fluent 52, while Nitish Kumar Reddy added 39 runs, helping the team reach 226/8 in 20 overs.

In reply, KKR struggled against a disciplined SRH bowling attack, being bowled out for 161 in just 16 overs. Angkrish Raghuvanshi top-scored with a 29-ball 52, but other batters failed to build momentum. The wickets were shared among Blessing Muzarabani (4/41), Vaibhav Arora (2/47), Kartik Tyagi (1/48), and Anukul Roy (1/16).
SRH’s bowling was led by Jaydev Unadkat, who took 3/21, supported by Nitish Kumar Reddy (2/17) and Eshan Malinga (2/14), securing a comprehensive 65-run victory. While Sharma’s on-field performance delighted fans, the disciplinary action serves as a reminder of the IPL’s commitment to maintaining decorum and sportsmanship across matches.
