Actor Mouni Roy recently reflected on her 19-year journey in Mumbai and revealed that she had not originally planned to pursue acting as a long-term career. Speaking during an appearance on Farah Khan’s YouTube vlog, Mouni recalled how an unexpected encounter during her university days eventually changed the course of her professional life.

Before entering the entertainment industry, Mouni pursued academics in Delhi. She studied English Honours at Miranda House and later completed a master’s degree in Mass Communication from Jamia Millia Islamia. During her conversation with Farah Khan, she also revealed that she secured a first class in English Honours, a detail she noted many people may not know about her.

Mouni recalled that her entry into television came through a chance encounter outside her university. She was approached by someone from producer Ekta Kapoor’s team while walking on the road. The interaction eventually opened the door to her first television opportunity and led to her being cast in the popular serial Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.

The actor portrayed Krishna Tulsi in the show towards the end of its first-season run, which featured Smriti Irani in the lead role. Mouni recalled that she initially viewed her move to Mumbai as temporary rather than the beginning of a major acting career. At the time, she was involved in Indian street theatre and believed she would spend only a few months in the city before returning to Delhi.

However, her plans changed after she developed a strong connection with Mumbai. Mouni recalled falling in love with the city and eventually deciding to stay. When asked about her time in Mumbai, she revealed that she has now been living in the city for 19 years, marking a significant transformation from what had initially been planned as a short summer job.

Over the years, Mouni has become a recognised name in Indian television and cinema. She gained widespread popularity for her role as a shape-shifting serpent in Naagin and Naagin 2 and later appeared in films including Made in China and Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva. Her upcoming film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is also among the projects associated with her recent work.
