BMW Motorrad has unveiled the new BMW F 450 R, a road-focused naked motorcycle developed as part of the brand’s F 450 family. The motorcycle features a 420cc parallel-twin engine producing 48 hp and 43 Nm of torque, along with a range of electronic rider aids and connectivity features. Its styling draws inspiration from BMW’s larger S 1000 R, while the overall package has been designed around everyday road use and sporty handling.
The F 450 R uses a liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine with a 135-degree crankpin offset. The motor produces its peak power at 8,750 rpm and maximum torque at 6,750 rpm, with BMW stating that nearly 80 per cent of peak torque is available from 3,000 rpm. Power is transmitted through a six-speed gearbox, while higher-spec versions receive Shift Assistant Pro for clutchless upshifts and downshifts. BMW claims fuel consumption of 3.8 litres per 100 km and a theoretical range of more than 350 km from its 14-litre fuel tank.
The motorcycle uses a tubular steel space frame with the engine serving as a stressed member, while suspension components include a 43 mm KYB upside-down fork and a KYB rear monoshock connected to an aluminium swingarm. Sport-oriented versions receive adjustable suspension settings. The F 450 R has a ready-to-ride weight of 175 kg, with BMW focusing on a combination of manageable dimensions, responsive handling and a favourable power-to-weight ratio for the segment.

BMW has equipped the motorcycle with several electronic safety and riding systems, including ABS Pro, Dynamic Brake Control, Dynamic Traction Control and Engine Drag Torque Control. The standard riding modes are Rain, Road and Dynamic, while higher variants add a configurable Dynamic Pro mode. An optional Easy Ride Clutch can automate clutch operation during starting, stopping and gear changes when paired with the Shift Assistant Pro system.
The F 450 R also receives full LED lighting and a 6.5-inch TFT instrument display with smartphone connectivity, navigation, music controls and call functions. M Sport versions additionally feature sport-oriented display screens with information such as lean angle, braking data and a lap timer. Other available equipment includes heated grips, a USB-C charging port, reversible shift-pattern functionality and multiple seat-height options.
BMW Motorrad will offer the F 450 R in four variants: Base, Exclusive, M Sport and M Sport with Innovation Package. The higher-specification versions add features including Shift Assistant Pro, Sport Suspension, Riding Modes Pro and the Easy Ride Clutch system. With its combination of a twin-cylinder engine, electronics, road-focused chassis and multiple equipment levels, the F 450 R expands BMW’s new F 450 range with a dedicated naked motorcycle.
