Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming has offered fans a much-needed boost with positive updates regarding star batter Dewald Brevis, who has missed the first three matches of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 due to a side strain. Fleming confirmed that the team is carefully managing Brevis’ recovery and is hopeful that the South African prodigy will be fit in time for CSK’s next clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 11 at the iconic M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The five-day gap between games provides a window for the team to focus on his rehabilitation and ensure he returns at full fitness.
Brevis’ absence has been keenly felt as CSK has struggled to find momentum, losing their opening three matches of the season. The young batter, who joined CSK as a replacement in IPL 2025, had emerged as a bright spark in an otherwise disappointing campaign last year. He scored 225 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 180.00, hitting 17 sixes off just 125 balls. His ability to accelerate the scoring rate and anchor the middle order is expected to play a crucial role once he returns, adding depth and firepower to the team’s batting lineup.
Fleming emphasized the importance of taking a conservative approach to Brevis’ recovery. “We hope he is going to be right for the next game. We have five days between matches, and we have been conservative with his rehab. Hopefully, these next five days go as planned, and he is ready to go,” Fleming said during a press interaction amid CSK’s game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The coaching staff has been actively monitoring his fitness, with Brevis participating in side-net practice sessions and throwdowns under the guidance of assistant coach Rajiv Kumar.

The CSK management is banking on Brevis to regain form and help turn around the team’s fortunes after a challenging start to IPL 2026. Analysts note that his return will provide stability to the middle order, which has been inconsistent in the first three matches. Fans are also eagerly awaiting his comeback, as Brevis’ explosive batting style has made him one of the most exciting young talents in the league. His presence could be instrumental in helping CSK recover points and improve their standing in the IPL points table.
Looking ahead, CSK faces Delhi Capitals on April 11, followed by crucial matches against other top contenders. Brevis’ timely return could provide the impetus CSK needs to regain confidence and fight back in a highly competitive IPL season. Fleming and his coaching staff remain focused on player fitness and strategy, aiming to ensure that the five-time champions can regain momentum and challenge for the title once their key players are fully fit and match-ready.
