Delhi Metro Closes 45 Stations Ahead of CJP Protest Against Gyanesh Kumar
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has restricted entry and exit at 45 metro stations ahead of a planned protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar on October 10. The demonstration centres on the party's demand for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The restrictions began at 9 pm on Friday, October 9, and are scheduled to continue until 6 pm on Saturday, October 10, subject to further review by security agencies.

Major stations affected by the restrictions include Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Mandi House and ITO. The measures cover stations across several parts of the capital, potentially affecting daily commuters, office-goers and passengers travelling to important transport hubs. Authorities have advised commuters to check travel updates and make alternative arrangements where necessary to avoid delays.
Metro services will continue to operate, but passengers will not be able to enter or exit through the affected stations during the restriction period. Interchange facilities will remain available at the affected stations, except at New Delhi Metro station. The revised arrangement follows a reduction in the number of stations initially identified for closure, with the list brought down from 57 to 45 after judicial intervention.
The Delhi Police has tightened security across central Delhi ahead of the proposed gathering, citing concerns about public order and possible crowd movement towards sensitive locations. Traffic restrictions have also been announced in several areas, with motorists warned of potential congestion near key roads and junctions. Commuters heading towards railway stations, bus terminals and the airport have been advised to allow additional time for their journeys.
The protest is focused on CJP's demand for Gyanesh Kumar's resignation and its objections to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. The party has maintained its intention to demonstrate despite the police denying permission for the gathering. Authorities are monitoring the situation and may revise security arrangements depending on developments. Commuters have been advised to follow official Delhi Metro and traffic police updates for the latest information on station access and road restrictions.
