The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the resumption of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, kicking off on May 17 with a high-octane clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders in Bengaluru.
The season, halted on May 8 after a Punjab Kings-Delhi Capitals match was abandoned due to Pakistan’s airspace violation near Chandigarh, will conclude with the final on June 3, following a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.
The revised schedule, spanning six venues—Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Mumbai—includes 17 matches, with two double-header Sundays.

Playoffs are set for Qualifier 1 on May 29, Eliminator on May 30, Qualifier 2 on June 1, and the final on June 3, with playoff venues to be confirmed later. The BCCI, after consultations with government and security agencies, emphasized safety and stakeholder coordination.
A major challenge is the availability of foreign players, many of whom left India during the suspension. Franchises are scrambling to reassemble squads, but injuries, like Josh Hazlewood’s shoulder niggle (RCB), and commitments, such as the World Test Championship final (June 11), may limit returns of stars like Pat Cummins (SRH) and Kagiso Rabada (GT).
The IPL’s resumption clashes with the India A tour to England, featuring two four-day matches against the Lions from May 30 and June 6, ahead of India’s senior team’s Test series starting June 20. With the India A squad announcement imminent, the BCCI faces a scheduling dilemma, potentially impacting players vying for Test spots.
The BCCI’s swift action ensures the IPL’s return, but navigating player availability and scheduling conflicts will test its resilience as cricket fever grips India again.
