Rajasthan Royals batting coach Vikram Rathour has backed captain Riyan Parag despite his difficult IPL 2026 campaign, insisting that “nothing is going wrong with him.” Rathour said the franchise remains confident Parag will rediscover form as the tournament progresses, even after a string of low scores in the opening phase of the season.
Parag has managed only 88 runs in eight matches so far, with a strike rate of 112.82 and a highest score of 20. Those numbers have drawn criticism, especially given his leadership role and Rajasthan’s expectations from a middle-order aggressor. His appointment as captain was debated by some observers because the squad also includes established Indian players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel.
Rathour, however, dismissed concerns over Parag’s technique or confidence, saying the batter is training well in the nets and working hard behind the scenes. He described the current slump as a normal phase in cricket where players sometimes fail to convert preparation into match performances. According to the coach, the team has been holding one-on-one discussions with Parag and actively supporting him through the lean spell.

Parag’s modest returns stand in contrast to the stronger performances of Rajasthan’s other batters. Teen sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has delivered explosive runs at a remarkable strike rate, while Jaiswal and Jurel have also made consistent contributions. Their form has helped keep Rajasthan competitive, but the side would benefit significantly if their captain begins contributing regularly.
In the latest setback, Parag was dismissed by a sharp yorker from Pat Cummins during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The delivery exposed timing and adjustment issues under pressure, but coaching staff appear unconcerned about any deeper technical problem. They believe rhythm and confidence, rather than ability, are the real missing factors.
Rajasthan Royals now face a crucial stage of the tournament where captaincy composure and batting output from Parag could become decisive. Rathour’s public backing sends a clear message that the franchise is staying patient with its young skipper. If Parag turns the corner soon, Rajasthan could become a more balanced and dangerous side heading into the business end of IPL 2026.
