The Mumbai Cricket Association announced that 17-year-old opening batter Ayush Mhatre will lead a 17-member squad, including India batter Sarfaraz Khan, in the prestigious All India Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament, set to commence in Chennai from August 18 to September 9. Mhatre, who debuted for Mumbai in First-Class cricket last season and impressed in the IPL with Chennai Super Kings, brings his leadership experience as captain of the India U-19 team, which toured England for a multi-format series.
Mhatre’s recent form was on display in a Kanga League B Division match, where he smashed 82 runs off 48 balls for Sainath Sports Club, marking his first local maidan appearance since being named India U-19 captain. The Mumbai squad is bolstered by the inclusion of Musheer Khan, who returns after missing much of the 2024-25 season due to injuries from a car accident, and Suved Parkar, named vice-captain, who brings experience from eight First-Class matches.
The team, featuring promising talents like Divyansh Saxena, Sairaj Patil, and wicketkeepers Aakash Anand and Hardik Tamore, is poised to make a strong impact in the tournament. Mhatre, who will also lead India U-19 in a multi-format tour of Australia starting September 21, is expected to guide Mumbai with his dynamic batting and leadership, setting the stage for a competitive campaign.
