India continued their dominant all-round performance in the second ODI against Afghanistan at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, putting the visitors under severe pressure after posting a massive total of 402 all out and making early inroads into the Afghanistan batting lineup.
Batting first, India produced a commanding display led by a stellar century from Shubman Gill, who scored 154 off 110 deliveries. He anchored the innings with precision and controlled aggression, forming a crucial 224-run partnership with Ishan Kishan, who also struck a brilliant century with 125 off 79 balls. Their partnership laid the foundation for India’s imposing total.
India’s batting order saw a tactical reshuffle, with Gill batting at number three to accommodate Yashasvi Jaiswal at the top of the order. The move added further firepower in the powerplay, while skipper Rohit Sharma contributed a quick 48 off 39 balls before being dismissed by a sharp googly from Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan.

In reply, Afghanistan’s chase of 403 got off to a shaky start as India’s bowlers struck early and regularly. Fast bowler Gurnoor Brar made an impact by picking up two wickets, helping reduce the visitors to a precarious position inside the powerplay. Afghanistan lost wickets in quick succession and struggled to build partnerships under mounting scoreboard pressure.
At the time of reporting, Afghanistan had already lost 7 wickets for195 runs, with India firmly in control of the contest. The Indian bowling unit maintained tight lines and lengths, not allowing the opposition batters any breathing space in what has been a one-sided affair so far. With a massive target of 403 to chase, Afghanistan face an uphill battle as India look to seal another comprehensive victory in the ongoing ODI series.
