Cricket Canada has described the International Cricket Council’s decision to suspend its membership as “unexpected,” while confirming that it will fully comply with all directives issued by the global governing body. The suspension marks a significant administrative setback for the national federation, even as its representative teams remain eligible to participate in ICC events during the period of review.
The suspension was announced during an ICC board meeting held in Ahmedabad, where officials cited serious breaches of membership obligations as the basis for immediate action. While the sanction affects Cricket Canada’s administrative standing, it does not currently impact the participation rights of Canadian national teams in ICC-sanctioned competitions.
In its formal response, Cricket Canada said it had already begun implementing corrective measures after receiving earlier notices from the ICC. The board stated that it had submitted a detailed Corrective and Preventative Action Plan (CAPA), which includes a full root cause analysis of governance and financial control failures, along with phased reforms aimed at restoring compliance.

The plan reportedly outlines immediate corrective steps within a 0–90 day window focused on governance, financial controls, reporting accuracy, and leadership structure, followed by longer-term preventive reforms over 90–180 days. The organisation also said it is working to ensure alignment with ICC compliance expectations through structured institutional reforms.
As part of its overhaul, Cricket Canada has established an independent jurist-led committee with full investigative authority. The committee is chaired by Canadian lawyer and former national athlete Dasha Peregoudova, and is tasked with reviewing financial records, interviewing personnel, and delivering interim recommendations within 14 days, followed by a full report within 45 days.
Cricket Canada further stated that it has reactivated its Finance and Audit Committee, initiated governance training, and begun revising its 2026 budget to reflect improved financial disclosures. It also emphasised that the current leadership is not responsible for the irregularities cited by the ICC, attributing the issues to previous administrative structures while committing to comprehensive reforms going forward.
