Former Pakistan Head Coach Gary Kirsten has accused the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of excessive interference during his tenure, claiming that “outside forces” made it difficult for him to effectively manage the team. The remarks have sparked a response from PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who downplayed his direct involvement with the coach.
Responding to the allegations, Naqvi said he had limited interaction with Kirsten during his tenure and indicated that others within the system would be better placed to address the claims in detail. He refrained from directly disputing the allegations but distanced himself from the operational aspects of the team’s management.
“I didn’t have many interactions with Gary Kirsten, so it would be better if those who worked closely with him respond,” Naqvi said during a media briefing. His remarks suggest that internal coordination within the PCB may have involved multiple stakeholders beyond the chairman’s direct oversight.

Despite his criticism, Kirsten acknowledged that his experience with the players was largely positive. He praised their professionalism and said that, despite language differences, communication on cricketing matters remained effective. His comments highlight a contrast between on-field relationships and off-field administrative challenges.
The exchange has once again brought attention to governance and management issues within Pakistan cricket, with questions being raised about the extent of administrative involvement in team affairs. The PCB has not issued a detailed response beyond Naqvi’s remarks, leaving the matter open for further clarification from other officials involved during Kirsten’s tenure.
