The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed six-time MLA Sanjay Saraogi as the new President of its Bihar unit, replacing Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, who now serves as the state's industries minister. The announcement was made on December 15, 2025, by BJP national president J.P. Nadda, coming just a day after Bihar minister Nitin Nabin was elevated to the party's National Working President. Saraogi, a prominent leader from the Vaishya community, takes charge nearly a month after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a landslide victory in the November 2025 Bihar Assembly elections, winning 202 of the 243 seats.
Saraogi, aged 56 and born in Darbhanga on August 28, 1969, holds postgraduate degrees in Commerce (M.Com) and Business Administration (MBA). He began his political journey with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), the RSS-affiliated student wing, and formally joined the BJP in 1995. His early roles included district secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in 1999, president of the Darbhanga city unit in 2001, and general secretary of the Darbhanga district BJP in 2003. He also served as a councillor in the Darbhanga Municipal Corporation and as convener of the Bihar BJP Cow Protection Cell.
Saraogi made his electoral debut in February 2005, winning the Darbhanga Sadar (now Darbhanga) seat, and has retained it consecutively in the October 2005, 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025 elections, establishing a strong hold in the Mithilanchal region. He previously served as minister of Revenue and Land Reforms in the Nitish Kumar-led government from February 2025 but was not included in the new cabinet formed after the recent polls. Known for his organisational skills and hard-line stance on certain issues, Saraogi has been praised by party colleagues as an experienced leader capable of strengthening the unit.

Upon his appointment, Saraogi stated that the party is like his "mother" and pledged to work with honesty, loyalty, and patience to bolster the organisation. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar extended congratulations, noting Saraogi's prior role as a cabinet colleague. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed confidence that the BJP would achieve historic milestones under Saraogi's leadership.
The move aligns with the BJP's "one person, one post" policy and returns the state presidency to a leader from the Vaishya community, following predecessors like Sanjay Jaiswal and Dilip Jaiswal, after interim appointments of OBC leaders Nityanand Rai and Samrat Choudhary. Party vice-president Santosh Pathak highlighted Saraogi's potential to deliver "good results" by refocusing on grassroots strengths.
As the NDA consolidates power in Bihar—with the BJP emerging as the single-largest party with 89 seats—this organisational reset signals preparations for future challenges while maintaining social balance within the party's core voter base. Saraogi's elevation underscores the BJP's emphasis on experienced, community-aligned leadership in a key Hindi heartland state.
