Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Congress party during a public rally in Assam’s Darrang district on Sunday, alleging that it supports Pakistan-groomed terrorists and anti-national forces instead of standing by the Indian Army. Addressing a large gathering in Mangaldoi, Modi accused the Congress of shielding infiltrators and attempting to alter India’s demographic fabric, vowing that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would staunchly oppose such efforts.
“The Congress, instead of backing our brave soldiers, aligns with terrorists nurtured by Pakistan. They protect infiltrators and anti-national elements,” Modi declared, drawing cheers from the crowd. He emphasized that the BJP is committed to safeguarding India’s sovereignty by preventing illegal land grabs and demographic shifts orchestrated by external forces.
Modi also took aim at Congress’s decades-long rule in Assam, claiming it delivered minimal infrastructure development. “For decades, Congress built just three bridges over the Brahmaputra. In contrast, the BJP-led government has constructed six such bridges in the last 10 years alone,” he said, highlighting his party’s focus on transformative infrastructure. He praised Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for his efforts in reclaiming encroached land from infiltrators, enabling local farmers to cultivate these plots and boosting agricultural productivity.

The Prime Minister underscored Assam’s remarkable economic progress, noting that the state is achieving a growth rate of approximately 13%. He attributed this success to the synergy of the “double-engine government,” referring to the alignment between the BJP-led central and state governments. “Assam is becoming a beacon of development, emerging as a healthcare hub in the Northeast,” Modi said, outlining his vision for a prosperous region.
Modi further emphasized the Northeast’s critical role in realizing the dream of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). “India is among the world’s fastest-growing economies, and Assam’s rapid progress is a testament to our collective efforts,” he added. The Prime Minister’s address resonated with the audience, who lauded his government’s focus on security, development, and inclusive growth.
The rally, which began at 1:00 PM, was part of Modi’s two-day visit to Assam, during which he also laid the foundation stones for health and infrastructure projects worth Rs 6,300 crore in Darrang. These include the Darrang Medical College and Hospital, a nursing college, and a General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) school, alongside major connectivity projects like the Guwahati Ring Road and the Narengi-Kuruwa bridge.
Modi’s remarks come amid heightened political tensions, with the BJP intensifying its criticism of the Congress ahead of upcoming elections. His allegations against the opposition are likely to spark further debate, as the BJP positions itself as the guardian of national security and regional development. The rally concluded with Modi reiterating his commitment to Assam’s growth, leaving the audience energized and optimistic about the state’s future.
