Vijay is reportedly moving closer to forming a coalition government in Tamil Nadu after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, secured support from smaller regional allies to strengthen its majority in the Assembly. Sources indicated that discussions over cabinet formation and ministerial allocation are already underway, signalling rapid progress toward the establishment of what could become Tamil Nadu’s first coalition government in several decades.
According to reports, the proposed power-sharing arrangement includes cabinet representation for alliance partners backing the Vijay-led formation. Sources said the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi is expected to receive one ministerial berth, while two cabinet positions may be allocated to Left parties, including the Communist Party of India and the Communist Party of India (Marxist). The developments suggest that negotiations among coalition partners have entered an advanced stage.
The three supporting parties reportedly extended formal backing to TVK after holding consultations earlier in the day. Each of the parties currently has two MLAs in the Assembly and had contested the election as allies of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Political sources claimed that DMK chief M. K. Stalin allowed alliance partners to independently decide their position regarding support for the Vijay-led government formation.

Sources further suggested that VCK leader Thol. Thirumavalavan could personally become part of the cabinet if the government takes shape as expected. Meanwhile, the Indian National Congress is also reportedly seeking two ministerial berths as part of the broader coalition negotiations. The evolving cabinet-sharing formula highlights the importance of smaller regional and ideological allies in helping TVK establish a stable majority.
The political developments mark a major transformation in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, which has historically been dominated by single-party governments led by either the DMK or the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. Vijay’s emergence as a serious political force has disrupted the state’s long-standing two-party dynamic and forced traditional parties to reassess their strategies following the recent electoral outcome.
Political observers believe the coming days will be crucial in determining the final shape of the coalition and the stability of the proposed administration. While official confirmation regarding cabinet positions and government formation is still awaited, the rapid pace of negotiations indicates that TVK and its allies are attempting to quickly consolidate power and avoid political uncertainty. The formation of a coalition government under Vijay would mark one of the most significant political shifts in Tamil Nadu in recent decades.
