In a fiery press conference in Agartala on August 11, 2025, the Tripura Congress accused the BJP-led central government and the Election Commission (EC) of undermining the democratic process by turning elections into a "farce." Congress spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty alleged that the Modi government, in collusion with the EC, has been manipulating voter lists to skew electoral outcomes, a tactic he claimed has been consistently employed across multiple elections.
Chakraborty highlighted the launch of a statewide campaign aimed at raising public awareness about these "mischievous activities" and mobilizing citizens to counter attempts at electoral fraud. The campaign seeks to ensure transparency in the upcoming Assembly elections in Tripura by urging strict vigilance to prevent the deliberate removal of eligible voters or the inclusion of illegal names on voter lists.
"We are calling on all secular and democratic citizens to join us in safeguarding democracy and ensuring free and fair elections," Chakraborty urged, emphasizing the need for collective action to combat vote rigging. The Congress's accusations echo broader concerns about electoral integrity, with similar claims raised in other states like Bihar, where 65 lakh voters, primarily from marginalized communities, were allegedly omitted from voter lists.

The party’s campaign comes amid heightened political tensions, with the opposition alleging that the BJP’s tactics, including booth jamming and voter intimidation, have compromised past elections in Tripura, such as the 2024 West Tripura Lok Sabha and Ramnagar Assembly polls. As the state gears up for its next electoral battle, the Congress is rallying citizens to protect the sanctity of the democratic process.
