Delhi Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu on Tuesday directed technical universities to develop technology-based solutions for the city's civic challenges, including sanitation, traffic management, road conditions and rain-flooding management. Chairing the sixth Court Meeting of Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT) at Lok Niwas, Sandhu called for greater focus on converting academic research into practical solutions for issues faced by Delhi.
Sandhu emphasised that the way forward for a Viksit Dilli would involve moving from research to solutions and from innovation to measurable impact. He appreciated NSUT's academic growth while urging the university to focus more sharply on research that can produce actionable outcomes. He said the institution should use its technical expertise to address civic concerns by studying and analysing global best practices.
The Lieutenant Governor also called for greater coordination between NSUT and expert agencies dealing with the city's civic problems. He directed the university to facilitate government departments and agencies, including the MCD, NDMC, Delhi Police, Health Department, PWD and Transport Department, with technological solutions tailored to their specific requirements. He also stressed the importance of keeping AI education future-ready through global collaboration, with particular attention to transformative applications such as AI-enabled healthcare in government hospitals.

Sandhu further called for skill-based courses aimed at improving employability, particularly in areas such as artificial intelligence, cyber security and digital tools. He urged the university to make greater use of international academic and industry partnerships to strengthen capabilities and global competitiveness. Such efforts, he said, should contribute to improving the university's national and global rankings through academic rigour, research excellence and international engagement.
On community engagement, Sandhu directed NSUT to continue its work in adopted villages, focusing on employability, awareness of financial activities and sports initiatives, particularly team games that encourage teamwork. He also asked the university to maintain proper feedback and records of these activities. In addition, he directed that urban centres and colonies be adopted by the university in collaboration with the respective resident welfare associations.
The Lieutenant Governor also called for greater participation of NCC and NSS students in efforts to address civic issues. He directed that suitable awards be instituted to recognise their involvement and outstanding performance in university activities. The directions placed emphasis on linking the university's academic and technical capabilities with practical civic needs while encouraging students to participate in community-oriented initiatives.
