Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday strongly denied that any objectionable slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi were raised on stage during the party’s “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. She questioned the BJP’s intentions in repeatedly raising the matter in Parliament.
The controversy erupted after videos surfaced on social media showing some participants allegedly chanting provocative slogans such as “Modi teri kabar khudegi” while heading to the rally venue. The BJP demanded accountability, claiming the slogans were unacceptable and hurtful.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Priyanka Gandhi clarified, “No one on the stage said anything like that. If such remarks were made, it may have come from individuals in the crowd, but it is still not clear who was responsible.” She added that the issue was being raised to disrupt parliamentary proceedings.

Other Congress leaders also distanced the party from the slogans. MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka said he was present throughout the rally and heard no objectionable remarks. MPs Pramod Tiwari, Vivek Tankha, and Mallu Ravi emphasized that while some individuals may have expressed themselves, no party leadership endorsed or raised such slogans.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju condemned the slogans and demanded a public apology from Congress leadership in Parliament. He stressed that calling for harm against the Prime Minister is “extremely sad and regrettable” and urged Congress leaders to acknowledge the issue openly to maintain respect for democratic norms.
The Lok Sabha was briefly adjourned after treasury benches raised the issue, highlighting the tension between opposition and ruling party members. The incident underscores the growing sensitivity over political rhetoric and the challenge of maintaining decorum in large public rallies.
