A Congress protest rally held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday sparked major controversy after participants were heard raising objectionable and provocative slogans targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The demonstration, organised to protest alleged “vote chori,” quickly shifted focus as chants directed at the Prime Minister drew widespread condemnation from the ruling BJP.
Reacting strongly, Union Minister Annapurna Devi said the slogans reflected the Congress party’s long-standing mindset and lack of respect for democratic institutions and national leadership. She condemned the language used against the Prime Minister and his family, stating that such conduct exposed what she described as the opposition’s deeply negative and irresponsible political thinking.
Annapurna Devi further asserted that Prime Minister Modi’s leadership symbolises India’s rapid development and the vision of a Viksit Bharat. She said resorting to personal abuse instead of constructive debate showed the Congress’s inability to accept the country’s progress and weakened its moral standing in public discourse.

Union Minister B.L. Verma also criticised the Congress, warning that inflammatory slogans would not obstruct India’s growth. He said that while opposition leaders may continue raising such chants, the nation would keep moving forward under the Prime Minister’s leadership, adding that divisive rhetoric ultimately harms those who promote it.
The rally was held under heavy security, with Congress leaders and workers accusing the central government and the Election Commission of India of colluding to manipulate elections. However, BJP leaders claimed the slogans revealed the true intent of the protest, alleging it was driven more by political frustration than genuine concern over electoral reforms.
Defending the protest, Congress workers reiterated their support for Rahul Gandhi and alleged widespread public anger against the government. They claimed the slogans reflected grassroots sentiment against alleged electoral misconduct. The incident has since escalated tensions between the BJP and Congress, deepening the war of words over political decorum, democratic values, and the credibility of constitutional institutions.
