Prime Minister Narendra Modi unleashed a scathing attack on West Bengal’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) government during a fiery rally in Alipurduar, accusing it of fostering violence, corruption, and lawlessness.
Labeling it a ‘nirmam sarkar’ (cruel government), Modi claimed the people of Bengal are desperate for change ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
Addressing a massive crowd in north Bengal, Modi pointed to recent communal violence in Murshidabad and Malda as evidence of TMC’s failure to maintain law and order. “In Murshidabad and Malda, homes were marked and set ablaze while police stood idle, allowing lawlessness under the guise of appeasement,” he said, referencing the April clashes over the Waqf Amendment Act that left three dead and several injured. “Is this how a government functions? Bengal is crying out: ‘No more cruelty, no more corruption!’”

Modi outlined five crises plaguing Bengal under TMC rule: rampant violence, insecurity among women, youth unemployment, systemic corruption, and self-serving politics that deprive the poor. He zeroed in on the multi-crore teacher recruitment scam, accusing TMC of ruining the education system and the lives of thousands of teachers. “TMC scammers have pushed Bengal’s youth into darkness, yet they blame the courts instead of owning their mistakes,” he charged.
The Prime Minister also criticized the TMC for skipping a recent NITI Aayog meeting, alleging it reflects their apathy toward development. He claimed the state obstructed central schemes, noting that only 400 km of the 4,000 km of rural roads sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana have been built.
Reaching out to Alipurduar’s tribal population, Modi accused TMC of neglecting indigenous communities and failing to implement the PM Janman Scheme for tribal welfare. He also recalled TMC’s opposition to President Droupadi Murmu’s nomination, underscoring their alleged bias against tribals.
With Bengal’s political temperature rising, Modi’s rally signals an intensifying battle as the state gears up for next year’s elections.
