In a dramatic shift, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam’s AIADMK Cadres Rights Retrieval Committee announced its exit from the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) on Thursday. The decision, revealed by veteran leader Panruti S Ramachandran, marks a significant realignment in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape ahead of future elections.
Flanked by Panneerselvam and other committee leaders, Ramachandran told reporters in Chennai, “The Committee will no longer be part of the NDA.” He emphasized that Panneerselvam would lead a statewide tour to connect with supporters and strengthen the faction’s grassroots presence. The Committee has decided to defer decisions on future alliances, opting to assess political circumstances closer to the polls.
Panneerselvam, a prominent AIADMK figure, has been at odds with the party’s mainstream leadership, leading to the formation of his breakaway faction. The move to sever ties with the NDA signals his intent to carve an independent path, potentially reshaping alliances in Tamil Nadu’s volatile political arena. Analysts suggest this could impact the NDA’s influence in the state, where regional parties hold significant sway. The Committee’s next steps, including potential negotiations with other political blocs, are now under intense scrutiny as Panneerselvam seeks to rally support and redefine his faction’s role.
