Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati on Thursday condemned what she described as an “insult” to the Brahmin community in the film Ghooskhor Pandat, demanding an immediate ban on its release. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said the portrayal shown in the film was objectionable and hurt the sentiments of a respected community.
In a statement, Mayawati alleged that the film reinforces negative stereotypes and unfairly targets Brahmins, which she said could disturb social harmony. She argued that creative freedom should not come at the cost of insulting any community and urged authorities to take the matter seriously.
The BSP Leader called upon the central and state governments to examine the content of the film and impose a ban if it is found to be offensive. She also appealed to the film’s makers to reconsider their approach, warning that such portrayals risk deepening social divisions.

Mayawati further said that films and other forms of popular media carry a responsibility to promote mutual respect and understanding in a diverse society like India. She maintained that repeated targeting of specific communities under the guise of satire or realism was unacceptable.
The controversy has sparked debate on social media, with supporters of the film defending it as a work of fiction, while critics echoed concerns about community portrayal. As of now, there has been no official response from the filmmakers or the censor authorities regarding Mayawati’s demand.
The issue adds to the ongoing national conversation on the limits of artistic expression and the role of regulatory bodies in addressing grievances related to cultural and social sensitivities.
