Union Minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan announced Monday that Nitish Kumar will take oath as Bihar’s Chief Minister following the upcoming assembly elections, reversing his recent criticism of Kumar’s government. Just days ago, Paswan expressed regret over supporting Kumar, accusing his administration of failing against rising crime.
Speaking to reporters at an event in New Delhi, Paswan, the Hajipur MP, called the NDA a “winning combination” under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. “My commitment is to PM Modi. After the elections, Nitish Kumar will definitely be chief minister again,” he affirmed, signaling unity within the NDA.
Paswan also addressed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls, dismissing Opposition claims of voter suppression. He noted that the process, now digitized, allows online submissions and three levels of appeal to address errors. “Only wrongly registered voters will be removed, ensuring no injustice,” he said, adding that the Opposition previously raised concerns about voter lists after elections. The SIR, already implemented in Bihar, will extend to states like West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, and eventually nationwide, he added.

Responding to RJD MP Manoj Jha’s call for a fact-finding committee on Bihar’s law and order, Paswan, a native Bihari, rejected the need. “I know the situation and raised concerns, not a revolt,” he clarified, accusing the Opposition of hoping for an NDA split to gain electoral advantage.
Paswan also defended Operation Sindoor, criticizing the Opposition for questioning the Army’s role to target PM Modi. “The operation’s success was due to the Army, backed by Modi’s decisive leadership,” he said, slamming the Opposition for trusting foreign leaders over India’s government and military. He further criticized their disruption of a special parliamentary session on Operation Sindoor, urging them to avoid politicizing critical issues.
