The Tarapur constituency in Munger district has emerged as one of the most closely watched battlegrounds in the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, setting the stage for a high-stakes face-off between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Known for its volatile electoral history, Tarapur has voted 19 times since 1951, including two bypolls, and has rarely remained loyal to any single political party for more than one term.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, contesting from Tarapur for the first time, represents the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which also includes JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), HAM, and RLM. His candidature is significant, as Tarapur has deep roots in his family’s political legacy. His father, Shakuni Choudhary, a veteran leader, had won from the same seat twice — first as an Independent in 1985 and then on a Congress ticket in 1990.
On the opposition front, the RJD has fielded Arun Kumar, who is banking on the Mahagathbandhan’s social base to regain lost ground in central Bihar. Adding a third dimension to the contest, the Jan Suraaj Party led by Prashant Kishor has nominated Santosh Kumar Singh, who could act as a spoiler by attracting dissatisfied voters from both camps.

Key local issues such as unemployment, recurring floods, lack of industries, and poor infrastructure dominate voter concerns. The Bihar Assembly elections will be conducted in two phases on November 6 and 11, with counting scheduled for November 14.
