In a desperate plea for justice, Dnyaneshwari Munde, widow of murder victim Mahadev Munde, consumed poison at the Beed Superintendent of Police’s office on Wednesday, protesting the lack of arrests 22 months after her husband’s killing. She was rushed to Beed Civil Hospital’s ICU, where doctors reported her condition as stable.
Mahadev Munde, a resident of Parli, Beed district, was abducted on October 19, 2023, and found dead three days later. Despite the passage of nearly two years, no suspects have been apprehended, fueling public outrage. Dnyaneshwari arrived at the SP’s office around 1 pm, initially carrying an inflammable substance, intending to self-immolate. Speaking to reporters, she lamented, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi talks about Operation Sindoor, but what about my sindoor?” referring to her marital status and the government’s failure to deliver justice.
Police confiscated the inflammable substance, but Dnyaneshwari drank poison from a bottle she carried. Authorities acted swiftly, ensuring her immediate hospitalization. On the same day, the case was transferred to the local crime branch for further investigation, according to a police official.
