Planning to visit the U.S. in 2026? Brace yourself — getting a U.S. visa is about to become significantly more expensive for Indian travelers, students, and professionals.
Under U.S. President Donald Trump’s newly signed ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act’, a sweeping visa reform law passed on July 4, 2025, applicants from India will now face massive hikes in visa-related fees, starting next year.
What’s Changing?
One of the most impactful changes is the introduction of a $250 “Visa Integrity Fee” (approx. ₹21,400), mandatory for all non-immigrant visa categories — including:

The only exceptions? Diplomatic visa categories (A and G).
This non-waivable fee will be required with every new application filed from 2026 onwards, and will be adjusted annually for inflation. Though it’s described as a "security deposit," refunds are only possible if the visa holder leaves the U.S. within five days of visa expiry — and even then, student and professional refunds may take years.
More Hidden Costs Incoming
On top of the new Visa Integrity Fee, other mandatory charges include:
-
$24 for Form I-94 (Arrival/Departure Record) – approx. ₹2,060
-
$13 ESTA Fee – approx. ₹1,120 (for Visa Waiver Program travelers)
This is in addition to the existing $185 visa application fee (approx. ₹15,900), which remains unchanged.
Total Damage: From ₹16,000 to ₹40,000+
For a standard tourist or student visa, the total cost could now exceed ₹40,000, depending on exchange rates — a staggering 2.5x increase compared to 2025.
Why the Steep Hike?
According to the Trump administration, the goal is to tighten visa compliance and improve national security through financial accountability. But critics argue that this move disproportionately affects students, professionals, and families from countries like India.
Bottom Line
If you're planning a trip, degree, or career move to the U.S. next year, start saving now — or risk being priced out of your American dream.
