A routine morning walk turned deadly for three women in Assam’s Boko area when they were struck and killed by a train near Bamunigaon Railway Station on Monday at around 5:25 am. The victims, identified as Rumi Das (55), Korabi Malu (60), and Uttara Das (60), all residents of No. 2 Satabari village, were crossing the railway tracks near Gate No. 240 when the tragedy occurred.
The incident unfolded on the Kamakhya–Goalpara railway line as two trains—the Guwahati-bound Ujanimukha Puri Express (Train No. 15643) and an NMG goods train—passed through simultaneously. According to eyewitnesses, the women, unaware of the approaching Puri Express, may have switched tracks after hearing the goods train’s horn, only to be hit from behind by the electric-engine express train, which locals claim did not sound its horn. The collision was catastrophic, resulting in instant fatalities and leaving the victims’ bodies severely mutilated.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway, confirmed the incident, stating, “An unfortunate incident took place when three ladies, who had come onto the railway track between Bamunigaon and Boko stations, were run over by Train No. 15643.” The railway authority urged the public to avoid crossing tracks except at designated crossings to prevent such tragedies.

The accident has reignited concerns about safety along the Kamakhya–Jogighopa railway line, where locals report nearly 20 similar fatalities in recent years due to inadequate fencing and pedestrian crossings. Residents of No. 2 Satabari, located just 300 meters from the tracks, are demanding urgent safety measures, including barriers and warning systems.
Boko Police responded swiftly, launching an inquiry into the incident. Authorities are reviewing the safety infrastructure in this accident-prone section, with calls for immediate action growing louder. The tragedy has cast a pall over the village, with community members mourning the loss and pressing for accountability.
Northeast Frontier Railway reiterated its appeal for public caution, emphasizing the dangers of trespassing on railway tracks. As investigations continue, the focus remains on preventing further loss of life in this high-risk zone.
