The Madhya Pradesh Human Rights Commission (MPHRC) has initiated a suo motu investigation into a tragic "stampede" at Kubereshwar Dham in Sehore, where two women died during a rudraksha distribution event on Tuesday. The incident, linked to a religious gathering organized by prominent preacher Pandit Pradeep Mishra, prompted the MPHRC to demand a detailed probe from the Sehore collector and superintendent of police, with a report due within 15 days.
The stampede occurred in Chitawaliya Hema village, where a large crowd gathered for a religious yatra. Chaos erupted at the distribution counter, resulting in the deaths of two women and injuries to several others, who were subsequently hospitalized. The MPHRC, led by acting chairperson Rajiv Tandon, has requested specifics on crowd management measures, medical care provided to the injured, and financial aid for the victims’ families.
Additionally, three more devotees passed away on Wednesday during a kanwar yatra led by Mishra, with officials attributing the deaths to health issues. Sehore Superintendent of Police Deepak Shukla confirmed the deceased included individuals from Gujarat, Haryana, and Bhind in Madhya Pradesh.
The incidents have raised concerns about safety and crowd control at religious events, prompting the MPHRC to seek urgent answers to prevent future tragedies.
